Jobs Word Search

This page hides the people who keep a town running, from the BAKER, the BARBER and the PLUMBER on the high street to the SURGEON, the PARAMEDIC and the FIREFIGHTER who turn up when something goes wrong, and a few dream jobs like ASTRONAUT, MAGICIAN and ZOOKEEPER.

Job titles are built from a handful of endings, and they are what makes this theme tricky. There are about thirty ER words, such as TEACHER, PAINTER and GARDENER, a set of IST words, like DENTIST and FLORIST, and the IAN words: LIBRARIAN, MUSICIAN, ELECTRICIAN. A grid with five ER words has ER all over it. Start from the front of each word, where the letters differ.

Some jobs contain other ones. A LIFEGUARD is a GUARD with more letters in front, so the two are never dealt together, because the shorter one would turn up twice. Near misses still happen: where two words cross, the start of one job can run into the end of another, so follow a run to its last letter before you let go.

PHOTOGRAPHER and RECEPTIONIST are the longest titles and only appear on Hard. Every game picks a new staff, so the office never looks the same twice.
