How to Play
A secret five-letter English word is picked at the start of each round. Type any five-letter word on your keyboard, or tap the letters on the on-screen keyboard, then press Enter to submit it.
Each tile in your guess changes color to tell you how close you are. Lime means the letter is in the word and in exactly that position. Coral means the letter is in the word but belongs somewhere else. Gray means the letter is not in the word at all. The on-screen keyboard keeps track of these colors too, so you can see at a glance which letters are still possible.
Rules
- You have six guesses to find the word.
- Every guess must be a real five-letter word from the game's list of common English words.
- Letters that appear twice are scored carefully: a repeated letter only shows as coral as many times as it actually occurs in the answer.
- Your score is the number of guesses you needed, so lower is better. Only solved rounds count toward the leaderboard.
- If you run out of guesses, the answer is shown and you can start a new round straight away.
Tips & Strategy
Open with common letters
A first guess packed with frequent letters, such as one containing E, A, R, T, and S, rules in or out the most of the alphabet in a single turn.
Use gray letters as a filter
Before each guess, glance at the keyboard. Never spend a guess on a letter that is already gray; every slot should test something new or lock in something known.
Move coral letters around
A coral letter tells you where it is not. Try it in a different position next time so that the guess also narrows down its real spot.
Watch for doubles
When you are stuck on three or four known letters, the missing piece is often a repeated letter. Words like "dream" rarely trip people up; words like "floor" often do.
FAQ
Is there one word per day?
No. Each round draws a fresh random word, so you can play as many rounds as you like.
Why was my word rejected?
The game only accepts words from its own list of common five-letter English words. Plurals, names, and rare words may not be on it. Try another guess; the rejected word does not use up a turn.
Why did my loss not appear on the leaderboard?
The leaderboard ranks how many guesses a win took. An unsolved round has no guess count to rank, so it is not submitted.
