Nature Hangman

This page brings the outdoors in: trees like the OAK, ELM and PINE, flowers such as the ORCHID and the DANDELION, and whole landscapes, from the MEADOW and the MARSH to the GLACIER and the RAINFOREST.

Nature words are often compounds, which gives you two chances to spot them. SUN and FLOWER make SUNFLOWER; WATER and FALL make WATERFALL; BLUE and BELL make BLUEBELL. When a long word has a few letters in place, look for a word you recognise at its start or its end.

Three-letter entries like OAK, ELM and IVY are quick to lose bites on, because each has only one or two vowels. Try the vowels first, then the consonant that fits the theme best.

Water shapes a lot of this theme. A LAKE, a MARSH, a WATERFALL and a GLACIER all appear, and they share letters like A, E and R. On a long word, those three are the safest first guesses before you reach for anything rarer.
