Countries Hangman

Every word on this page is a country, eighty of them from every continent: big names like BRAZIL and CANADA, island nations such as FIJI, JAMAICA and ICELAND, and a few tricky spellings like LITHUANIA and MADAGASCAR.

Country names follow patterns. Many end in IA, like BOLIVIA, CROATIA and NIGERIA, and many more in LAND, like FINLAND, POLAND and SWITZERLAND. If the word ends in two blanks, try A first; if it ends in four, LAND is a good bet.

The shortest countries, such as OMAN, LAOS, CUBA and PERU, are four letters long and can be hard to tell apart. The longest, NETHERLANDS, PHILIPPINES and SWITZERLAND, are eleven letters with plenty of repeats to find.

Countries with a double letter are worth watching for: the EE in GREECE, the PP in PHILIPPINES and the CC in MOROCCO each fill two slots at once. One good guess can show you most of the name.
