Fruits Hangman

This page deals only fruit: close to eighty of them, from the everyday APPLE and PEAR to tropical MANGOSTEEN, LYCHEE and JACKFRUIT, plus a handful of berries most people have tasted but never spelled.

Fruit names are full of repeated letters, which is good news in Hangman. Guess A and watch BANANA and PAPAYA fill up; R pays off in STRAWBERRY and the many other BERRY words, which share an ending worth remembering. If the word is long and ends in a run of blanks, BERRY or FRUIT is a strong bet.

The short ones are harder. FIG, LIME and DATE have few letters to go on, so start with vowels and let the pattern narrow it down.

Fruit names also borrow from many languages, which is why some look unusual on paper: KUMQUAT, LONGAN and LYCHEE come from Chinese, PAPAYA and GUAVA from the Caribbean. A K or a Y that lands early often points to one of them.
