Every word on this page is an animal, drawn from a list of eighty that runs from the farmyard to the far side of the world. One round you'll be spelling out a PIG or a COW, the next a PORCUPINE or an ORANGUTAN.

Animal names reward a bit of knowledge about spelling. Long words hide double letters: the OO in KANGAROO, the FF in GIRAFFE, the LL in GORILLA and ARMADILLO. Once a double letter lands, it fills two slots at once. Short names are the tricky ones, because three blanks leave many options; guessing A and O early usually settles YAK, FOX or DOG quickly.

Watch for unusual letters that suit this theme: the Z in ZEBRA and CHIMPANZEE, the X in LYNX, the Q in SQUIRREL. If the pattern already looks like one of those, the rare letter is worth the risk.
