How to Play
Each game is a set of five words, one at a time. The letters of the word are mixed up in a row of tiles, with a row of empty slots above them. Tap the tiles in the right order to spell the word; each one flies up into the next free slot, and tapping a placed letter sends it back. On a computer you can simply type the word.
When every slot is filled, the word is checked at once. A real word turns green and the next one deals in; anything else shakes and the letters drop back into the tray to try again. The clock runs from Start to your last word.
Rules
- You must use every letter. Any real English word made from all of them is accepted, so if the letters spell both LISTEN and SILENT, either one is right.
- Easy deals words of 4, 4, 5, 5 and 6 letters; Medium 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8; Hard 6, 7, 7, 8 and 8. Choose the level for a New Game from the menu above the game.
- Shuffle mixes the tray into a new order as often as you like, for free.
- A hint places the next letter of the word in its slot, and it stays there. A skip moves on to the next word without solving it.
- The Daily Challenge is the same five words for everyone, from 4 up to 8 letters, with one try a day. It is ranked by time, and each hint adds 10 seconds and each skip 30. New Games stay off the leaderboard.
Tips & Strategy
Find the endings
Look for letter groups that end English words: ING, ED, ER, LY, TION. Put them at the back and the rest of the word often falls into place.
Shuffle to see it fresh
Your eyes get stuck on the order in front of you. A shuffle or two costs nothing and often shows a word you walked right past.
Pair up the vowels
Few words start with three consonants in a row, so try a vowel second or third.
FAQ
Why wasn't my word accepted?
It has to use every letter exactly once and be in our dictionary of common and uncommon English words. Names and abbreviations don't count.
Is a hint or a skip better when I'm stuck?
In the Daily Challenge a hint costs 10 seconds and a skip 30, so one or two hints are usually the cheaper way through a hard word.
Where do the words come from?
Answers come from lists of common English words; everything you enter is checked against the public-domain ENABLE list.
