About Sudoku (Easy)

Every puzzle on this page can be solved with the two simplest moves in Sudoku. A naked single is a cell where only one digit is still possible once you have looked along its row, its column and its box. A hidden single works the other way round: a digit that has only one cell left in a row, a column or a box, even if that cell could hold other digits too. Easy puzzles never ask for anything more.

That makes this the level to start on if you are new to the game, or to come back to when you want a quick, calm solve. Once you know where to look, an Easy grid takes a few minutes, and most of it can be done without writing a single note.

Don't judge the level by how many digits are filled in. Easy, Medium and Hard puzzles here start with about the same number of givens, usually between 23 and 32. What changes is the reasoning they need, so an Easy grid can look empty at first and still fall into place one single at a time.

A good habit to build here: after you place a digit, look at the row, column and box it just filled, because that is where the next single usually appears. Tapping a digit lights up every copy of it on the grid, which makes hidden singles much easier to spot.

Every puzzle on this page is practice, so it isn't ranked, and your progress is saved in this browser apart from the main Sudoku page. When singles feel automatic, Medium adds the next set of techniques.
