How to Play

Move your paddle with the mouse, by dragging anywhere on the field, or with the arrow keys or A and D. The ball rests on the paddle at the start of each level and after a lost life; tap, click or press Space to launch it.

Break every brick to clear the level. Where the ball lands on the paddle decides where it goes: the middle sends it almost straight up, the edges at a sharp angle. P or Escape pauses, and the game pauses itself when you switch tabs.

Rules

  • You start with three lives and lose one when the last ball in play falls past the paddle. The game ends when the last life is gone.
  • Blue bricks break in one hit, amber in two and coral in three; dots show the hits left. Steel bricks from level six can't be broken.
  • A hit that doesn't break a brick scores 5. A broken brick scores 10 for each hit it took, times your combo.
  • The combo grows with every brick broken before the ball touches the paddle again: ×2 from the third, up to ×5.
  • Some bricks drop a power-up: a wide paddle for 15 seconds, two extra balls, a slower ball for 12 seconds, or an extra life, up to five. Each one caught adds 50.
  • A cleared level adds 500, and the next one begins with the ball back on the paddle.

Tips & Strategy

Aim with the edges

Catching the ball near an end of the paddle sends it sideways, toward the corners and behind a wall.

Get above the wall

Once the ball breaks through to the top, it bounces between the ceiling and the bricks, and the combo climbs fast.

Choose what to catch

A power-up isn't worth the ball. Let it fall when the ball is heading the other way.

FAQ

Why does the ball keep getting faster?

Every bounce off the paddle speeds it up a little, up to a fifth faster, and each level starts a little quicker. The slow-ball power-up gives you a breather.

Does it play the same on every screen?

Yes. The game runs on a fixed clock of 120 steps a second whatever your screen's refresh rate, so the ball covers the same ground at 60 Hz or 120 Hz, on a phone or a desktop.

How are scores checked for the leaderboard?

Each game starts from a number our server hands out, and your paddle movements are sent with the score. The server replays the game step by step and counts the points itself.

What happens after level ten?

The layouts start again, each brick needing one more hit, up to three, and the ball a little faster. The run ends only when your lives do.
