How to Play
All 52 cards are dealt face up into eight columns, seven cards in each of the first four and six in the rest. Above them sit four free cells, each a parking spot for one card, and four foundations, one per suit, that you build from Ace up to King. Getting every card onto the foundations wins.
Nothing is hidden, so every deal is a puzzle you can plan all the way through. Tap a card to send it, along with any cards above it, to its best spot: a foundation if it can go home, otherwise onto a column, an empty column, or a free cell. You can also drag cards exactly where you want them.
Rules
- On the columns, a card goes onto one rank higher of the other color: a black 6 on a red 7. An empty column takes any card.
- Foundations build up in one suit from Ace to King.
- Several cards that are in order can move together, as many as (empty free cells + 1) × 2 for every empty column. Moving into an empty column, that column doesn't count.
- When no remaining card could still need it, a card goes to its foundation by itself. Those automatic moves are free.
- Your score is the number of moves. Undo takes one back, and ties go to the faster game.
Tips & Strategy
Free the Aces and twos
Look for the low cards first and count what sits on top of them. Clearing a path to them early starts the foundations and opens space everywhere else.
Spend free cells slowly
Each empty cell doubles how many cards you can move in one go. Filling all four with cards you can't place soon leaves you stuck.
An empty column is worth two cells
Emptying a short column pays off, since it doubles every group move. Don't drop a single low card into it without a reason.
Plan backwards from a King
Kings can only move to empty columns. Work out where each one will end up before it blocks a column you need.
FAQ
Can every deal be won?
Almost every FreeCell deal can be, and here every one, New Game or Daily Challenge, has been solved by our solver before you see it.
Why won't a group of cards move?
Either they aren't in order with alternating colors, or there isn't enough free space: count your empty free cells and columns against the rule above.
How is my result checked?
When you win the Daily Challenge, your moves and their timing go to the server, which deals today's cards, replays every move, and counts them itself. New Games stay unranked and build your own record here.
